Three National Parks, Right on the Doorstep

Abel Tasman National Park 

•  Golden sand beaches and crystal clear waters. Trek the Abel Tasman Coast Track, or explore by kayak places inaccessible by foot - protected from the prevailing westerlies the sheltered waters are perfect for beginners.

Nelson Lakes National Park 

• Arrestingly beautiful alpine scenery. Hike to the glacially formed lakes of Rotoroa and Rotoiti on the 5-day Travers-Sabine Circuit or opt for one of many stellar day walk options. Most of the (non-great walk) huts here now need to be booked in advance.

Kahurangi National Park 

• Rugged coasts and expansive highlands, Kahurangi is the country’s second largest national park. Walk New Zealand’s longest Great Walk, the Heaphy Track, or delve into one of the park's many cave systems.

Nelson Food and Wine Experiences

The city is also a gateway to the Marlborough District’s bountiful vineyards and orchards, making it a prime spot for food and wine enthusiasts. The region produces some of New Zealand’s most iconic wines, in particular, sauvignon blanc. Local markets and eateries showcase fresh, regional produce.
